Is it cheaper to leave your heating on all day?

October 10, 2019
Harry

This was the title of an interesting and comprehensive article in today’s Mirror. It’s an old one but a good one at this time of year, and a question we’re asked by customers every week now temperatures have fallen.

In summary, the consensus is that leaving your heating on constantly is extremely wasteful and contrary to popular belief it does not save you money in the long run.

The article gives a number of useful ideas to lower your energy bills and says the most energy efficient approach is by using your boiler timer and room thermostat in combination with radiator temperature controls (TRVs), which can be easily fitted to existing and new radiators throughout a home.

The Mirror experts also recommend that if you have an older boiler it’s worth considering replacing it with a new much more energy efficient boiler, as many people benefit by moving from a 60% energy efficient boiler to a 92% energy efficient one!!

To put these figures in to content, with a modern energy efficient boiler if you invest £1 you’ll get 92p worth of heat back. With an older less efficient boiler that same £1 may only give you 60p worth of heat.
